Desk chair support - Hip replacement planned

Hi there,

Recently been diagnosed with advanced arthritis and waiting for bariatric surgery and then hip replacement.

Working from home most of the time due to organisational change from the pandemic so have an office with a new office chair.

Issue is that the office chair isn't helping my hip what so ever - started hurting when I sit on it so have resorted to working off a couch with my laptop as the couch is softer.

Question is has anyone had the same experience and if so any recommendations for chair supports to alleviate the pain.

Sorry to hear that the office chair isn't helping your hip. Was this chair provided by work? If not, you can ask your manager to refer you to their occupational health team. This way they can work with you to suggest suitable adaptations and equipment and they should be able to provide this for you too. Similarly, you can ask your GP to refer you to an occupational therapist for advice and support.

Dear Sharmin,

Thank you for your speedy response and suggestions. I am awaiting an occupational health appointment to see if there are chair options available but also the link to Living Made Easy is very useful also.
