Hi Everybody
Hi Everybody. I've just been diagnosed with osteoarthritis and have been told that I need a hip replacement. I've been struggling with pain in my hip, knee and lower leg for quite a while so I'm glad to have an explanation at last. But the pain is still so hard to live with. I've decided to join you all in the hope that I will get some advice and tips from people who know how difficult living with this condition is on a day to day basis. This is the first discussion forum I've joined so I'm a bit nervous!

Hi, @Alison540 and welcome to the Community.
I see that you have recently been given a diagnosis of osteoarthritis, with the need for a hip replacement. You have pain in hip, knee and lower leg. There follow some links to our website with help and information. Further if you look at the Categories box – lower right of your screen – you will find a category labelled Hips which contains the posts by others that should be relevant to you.
Please let us know how you get on and good luck with your journey.

Hi @Alison540
I was nervous the first time I posted but now it is like talking to friends. I have RA and also had OA in my hip which I had replaced. It has been a great improvement not only to be virtually pain free but also to be able to do almost all I used to do before the pain limited my mobility.
I strongly advise to keep doing some sort of exercise above and beyond just the usual about the house and garden and shopping etc. Easier said than done some days I know! The VA stretching videos are really useful and you can do as much and as little as you like but you need to keep your muscles and joints as flexible as possible to be as mobile for as long as possible. It helps your recovery too.
The pain in my hip, knee and lower leg bothered me as well before the THR and since then after a few weeks of recovery I only get the occasional twinge which tells me I have done too much.
I hope you will join in with the community it is a safe and friendly place to share .
