GOUT may increase the risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD) by 20 per cent, according to a study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.
The findings were based on the medical records of two million people. It’s thought inflammation associated with gout, a form of arthritis, may be responsible.
‘It’s imperative to effectively treat and monitor gout to prevent future AMD,’ said researchers at Taipei Medical University, Taiwan.

Many of us who take HCQ have to take eye tests would have this picked up, but its worth being aware of our increased risk due to our immune sys gone a bit mad.

Interesting article @Arthuritis I just had a look at it.
I don't think Hydroxychloroquine is prescribed for Gout so they won't get picked up as easily as those of us who take HCQ.
As usual I find it difficult to 100% interpret the statistics that's probably just me.😳
One simple eye test for AMD is the Amsler grid anyone can download on if they are have Gout or are worried about their eyes.
