Ankylosing Spondylitis & Adalimumab

Hi everyone,

I would like to hear about people's experiences of taking Adalimumab (anti-TNF drug) for Ankylosing Spondylitis. My Husband is currently being prescribed Arcoxia for his AS. This has previously worked well for him, but now he is experiencing increased pain and reduced mobility in his neck. His Rheumatologist has suggested that he tries Adalimumab for three months to see whether this is effective for him or not. I just wondered if anyone could tell me their experience of taking Adalimumab for AS. Did you/someone you are close to find it to be effective for pain management/improved mobility? Also it would be useful to hear about any side effects and to what extent it has impacted on people's immune systems seeing as it suppresses the immune system.

Many thanks, Beck x

    Hi @Beckp

A very quick welcome from me to the Versus Arthritis online community.

I understand from you post that you are looking to hear from others who have taken or are taking Adalimumab who might share their experiences good/bad on this drug.

While you wait for someone to come along, I am going to attach a couple of links for you to read.

This first one is information about Adalimumab:

This one is a previous community thread:

I very much hope the new medication is the one which really helps your husband. Do let us know how he gets on with it.

    Best wishes

    Ellen.

  • Hi Beckp

I have been on Adalimumab (Idacio) since Aug 22 for Ankylosing Spondylitis. Early days. I have had no side effects and the biosimilar seems to be very effective. Just a case of coming off the daily anti-inflammatories now.

Had an appointment with my Rheumatologist just last week and he said that Adalimumab only marginally suppresses the immune system rather trashes it completely.

I was rather apprehensive about going down this route but very pleased with the progress and outcome so far. I would recommend it.

If there is anything else you want to know, just ask.
