What is going on?
I had a steroid injection a week ago into the sacral area on my spine, I have had them before. I am still in enormous amounts of pain ,insomnia, weakness etc. Is it right to assume it failed. Why would this be hit and miss they have worked previously. I am feeling hopeless.

Hi @Faith12
Thank you for posting on our Helpline forum. I am sorry to hear that the steroid injection in your back doesn’t seem to have given you any relief of symptoms on this occasion despite helping in the past. It is understandable if you feel frustrated and wonder why the injection has not worked for you this time, when you are struggling so much with your symptoms.
Unfortunately, steroid injections don’t seem to work every time for everyone. It sounds as if it may help to go back to your GP to review your pain medication and explore other treatment options. Referral to a pain clinic, specialist or your local musculoskeletal (MSK) service may be worth considering. In addition to pain relief medication, a healthy balanced diet, maintaining a healthy weight, and the right kind of exercise a little and often, can all help to make a difference to how you feel.
If you would like to have more replies to your post, please repost on our 'living with arthritis' forum which is another source of support to help you be in touch with others living with arthritis and share experiences.
I hope the information given below will be of some help.
Best wishes,
Fiona, Helpline Advisor
