Knee replacement Timescale?

I saw the MSK specialist in December 2022 who referred me for two urgent knee replacements. I’m seeing the NHS Consultant at the end of May and am not sure if the reason for that is simply for him/her to confirm how urgently I need the first replacement and to possibly give a timescale for the wait? How long have people had to wait on average for their op lately, after their NHS consult? I know the pandemic has caused delays.

    Hi @paula60

It seems to be lottery and can have a lot to do with your geographical location. Some people can wait several months and other a couple of years. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones and there'll be more urgency behind it.

We are hearing a lot of people paying to go private just to get it done quicker but this is not a luxury everyone has.

Sorry I can't be more help and give an exact timescale. Maybe others can offer their experience.

Do keep posting and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes

I was refereed for bilateral knee replacement in November last year on a priority basis, but have heard nothing as yet about an initial appointment let alone a date for an operation, have chased it up but all i got was a letter saying the Hospital has my referral and i'm down as a priority, still waiting.
