Hip Arthritis

Saw an orthopaedic surgeon yesterday. To my dismay he told me I have arthritis in both my hips my left hip being the worst so needs replacing.im due to go on holiday with my family soon . I really don't feel like I want to go i dont want to be a burden does anyone have any ideas for pain relief?
