Hi everyone, I have had arthritis for quite a while. and have been feeling very isolated and depressed as I cannot walk very far. I am hoping that having people to chat with might help me to cope a bit better.

    Hi.

I know just what you mean. I have widespread osteoarthritis, but it is by far the worst in my back.

As much as I try to look on the bright side, there are days when I feel really low.

I have thought about it a lot and have decided to get a mobility scooter. Ive been really stubborn about getting one, but honestly I think that it has got to be better than being house bound, which I am at the moment.

We know there is no cure for this horried illness, only ways of helping us cope. I have been having physio therapy, which helps with movement , but not necessarily with the pain, but its early days. I am also taking prescribed medication as well as some over the counter stuff.

How far are you on your journey? Have you been diagnosed for some time? What do you do to keep your spirits up?

It would be great to chat with other fellow sufferers, its nice to know we are not alone

    Take Care…Jan 😀

  • Hi Jan,

I have had it about 4years, I cannot walk very far maybe about 100yds, then I start aching up my legs and back, I got the scooter when we went on holiday, and I couldn't walk about with my family, I'm so glad I did, now I can keep up with them and even overtake them when they annoy me lol, storm off into the sunset.

I can only do about 5-10 minutes worth of housework, the pain radiates up my arms to my back, not that I'm missing doing housework, after all the years I done it without help its nice to see someone else doing it.

I do get down a lot, but I read books watch films, I am thinking of joining the the arthritis meetings they hold near where I live, it might give me something to look forward to. I agree it is nice not to feel alone, although that makes me feel selfish, hoping someone else is in the same boat, although sadly I know there are lots of people out there feeling as bad and worse than I am, look after yourself Jan, its been nice chatting to you.
