Hip injection delaying surgery

I had an injection, steroid, in my hip in March for pain from osteoarthritis and was told at that time that I’d need to wait 3 months before any surgery could take place. The pain relief only lasted a month, rather than the longer period I’d hoped for. I’m now seeing another consultant and he has said I need to wait for surgery, ideally up to a year, but maybe 9 months or if it was really urgent, he might be persuaded to do surgery after 6 months. What have other people been told?
