Osteoarthritis
please can anyone offer any advice if they have found amitriptylin to be useful for osteoarthritis symptoms. Rheumatologist has said my outcome tests does not show any signs of inflammation so cannot prescribe medication and discharged me back to GP. I am in constant pain and told to take co-codamol daily but I’m still suffering with stiffness and feels like my joints are locking. This making me feel so unwell. I have now seen 2 separate rheumatologists who have basically said lose weight and get active. I swim when i can but even with the slightest change of routine seems to impact on my joints and leaves me feeling so unwell and weeks before I can start to be active again. I would be grateful for any advice.

Welcome to the community @Goodgirl1
With regards to your osteoarthritis I thought I'd share our info with you as there are tips in there for complimentary treatments, managing symptoms as well as the physical activity. Swimming would be great for you but sounds like you need support to manage the stiffness so hope this helps give you some ideas:-
Amitriptyline can be prescribed as a painkiller but but not sure this would help with the stiffness but might be worth discussing with you GP:-
Maybe you could explore some complimentary treatments, such as Capsaicin | Uses, side-effects | Versus Arthritis.
Hope you find something that helps

Hi @Goodgirl1
I found Amitriptyline about as much use as a chocolate tea pot but we are all different and what medications suit one person don't necessarily work for someone else.
You can always try it and if it doesn't work go back to your gp and tell him you want to try something else.
Love n hugs
Trish xx
