Psoriasis on scalp and face

Hi guys (it's been a while since I last posted)

I have had psoriatic arthritis for 32 years but have never really suffered badly with psoriasis. My son has however recently been diagnosed with psoriasis on his scalp and face. He was prescribed betamethasone for the scalp and hydrocortisone for the skin, it doesn't seem to be helping and appears to be getting worse. Any advice on treatments or creams please.

Thanks Karen

    Hi @Kazziwaz

I think you'd really need to talk to your son's doctor as to what is the next best course of action for his treatment. I had psoriasis since I was 15 but it gradually reduced between age 50 and 65 until I only had it in my ears when I was diagnosed with PsA at 65. When my skin and scalp psoriasis were being treated I was initially treated with betnovate cream which is a betamethasone cream but latterly I was switched to synalar cream which has fluocinolone acetonide. For my scalp I used polytar liquid shampoo which became increasingly difficult to get at local pharmacies but you can get it online easily.

Since being on sulfasalazine, MTX and adalimumab for PsA my psoriasis has disappeared completely.

Thank you for the reply, we have been to the Dr and he says this course of treatment is how to proceed but it seems to be getting worse since using it especially his scalp. I thought potentially if I knew of other treatments to mention it would help for the next appointment. I'm definitely going in with him though, I get the impression he's being brushed off
