Pain even after surgery for arthritis
Hi, I had a Trapeziectomy in Dec 2022 and still get pain although not as bad, I have fusion surgery scheduled on my right foot and was advised by the surgeon that whilst the operation will reduce my pain it will never eliminate it completely. I’m just wondering if this is the case with all surgery for arthritis, it it unreal to expect total pain elimination for any arthritis even after surgery?

Hi,
I think it depends on what surgery you have had. I had a hip replacement 10 years ago and after a few weeks was pain free and have been ever since. I had a partial knee replacement 15 months ago and although the pain levels are very much decreased, I do find my knee quite stiff and painful at times - but a different kind of pain from OA. And I accept that this pain may be exacerbated by the fact that I need surgery to the other knee!
