Do supplements help?

Hello all!

I have osteoarthritis of both knees. I've had steroid injections, an unsuccessful knee arthroscopy this year (advised not to bother with the other knee!) The consultant advised me to wait as long as possible for TKR. (I'm only 62!) Walking is painful. Sleeping is a challenge. Naproxen, Cocodamol and Paracetamol, don't seem to help.

Is there a magical supplement??

Michael Mosely, "Just One Thing" recommends Kimchi, a teaspoon a day. Boswellia and Turmeric with black pepper come with some research to support them.

    Hi @Smartknee,

In general, most of the supplements with proven results are anti-inflammatories, so won't necessarily help with pain but they do take 4 weeks+ to kick in. The only one I know which is a natural painkiller as such is CBD. It's expensive but I've had success with a brand called Hempura, a full spectrum CBD capsule which works for me.

If you really do find you've run out of options then perhaps alternative therapies might help? I have Acupuncture and it's helped immensely but it took 8 weekly sessions to kick in, I now go once a month.

Hope these help in some way,

    Jon

Hi @Smartknee! Sorry to tell you, there is no magical supplement😒 But don't be upset, there really are some supplement that may help and give you relief from pain. I noticed that you posted it a year ago - have you already found a solution? If not, try [ link removed]to have a better sleep and try to get on a healthy diet with less sugar and processed food and more vegetables, seeds and fish. Hope that will help you!

Apologies @Amelia234 I have had to edit/remove the link you added. It's against our terms and conditions to advertise a specific site/product. "…Direct links to purchase products (e.g. Amazon links) are not allowed"
