Hip replacement v groin pain

Awaiting a hip replacement but the fiercest pain is coming from the inside of my groin. Can’t drive or stand for longer than half an hour, getting into car is extremely painful, can’t turn to the right without pain. Any suggestions to lessen the groin pain?

    hi @Terrydan

I find turning by doing lots of little baby steps instead of turning my body helps. I don't stand up for any length of time, I can't so anything that involves standing up does when I'm relatively pain free. I wont drive at the moment - I haven't since before my neck surgery as I couldn't turn my head so I just gave up but to get in and out of the car, I open the door wide, sit on the seat and turn my body by holding on to the handle and jiggling myself round that way.

    Red Tiger Balm helps

Have you heard of a swivel cushion to get in and out of the car easier? I have used a carrier bag myself post op, but a proper swivel seat would be better ad safer.

Some people also have a thingy (no idea what it's called) which goes in the car door

Googled it it's a car support handle and is quite cheap.

I do hope your surgery is sooner rather than later.

    Hi Toni @frogmorton

You can't beat a good thingy...I always use that to describe something in moments of forgetfulness!

I am now in search of a thingy and a swivel cushion! Thank you!!

Whilst you wait for your 'thingy' to arrive; if you don't already, its easier to sit on the car seat first and then carefully lift your legs in. I still do this as if I don't I set my hips and knees off.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

Yup @speedalong that's what I'm currently doing but the new car has slightly smaller doors so need a thingy lol

@Trish9556 if the doors are smaller then pushing your seat won't likely help either. Hope thingy comes asap.

    Thanks @speedalong

It's coming from that selling site named after a river or tribe of women. If the husband has ordered it, so if it doesn't work I can go back!

    Thanks
