How long does a metal on metal hip resurficing last??

in Living with arthritis

Hip was done in in Dec 2008.

Any idea how long it might last please?

    I onow there was a problem with metal on metal hip replacements and I think, but am not sure, that anyone who had one was advised to get in touch with their surgeon if the surgeon didn't get in touch with them.

    Metal on metal re-surfacing? Sorry, I don't think I've heard of it.

    If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

    Had my metal on metal hip resurfacing done 2006. Lot of concern re cobalt etc at the time. Saw surgeons and had tests every year but no problems emerged. Stopped having tests few years ago. Hip still working well.

    Well done TroutFisher and your hip is a year older than mine!

    Again they the NHS were v good in testing and stopped that years ago and yesterday I gave the tin hip a good test as I fell off my bike and slap bang onto the tarmac road onto the tin hip and it hurt like hell but the hip today is fine!

    A v good NHS surgeon and I do do exercises to try to keep muscles in trim!

    Glad you’re still ok . Like the reference to your tin hip. Yes I also had a good surgeon and do exercises and walking to keep it in trim.
