Hip replacement and knees

I am on a waiting list for hip replacement and also have arthritis in the knee of the same leg. I have been told that the hip replacement will make the knee arthritis symptoms tolerable. Is there any information about this like how or why it is possible.

Any information would be helpful.

I see you are awaiting hip surgery, but also have pain in your knees.
