14th February
Yes, it’s Valentine’s Day again. My friend Val’s birthday, The day my Mum died (“Grandad came to fetch her” said my romantic son though I doubt either Mum or Dad, with over 60 years of happy, loving marriage together, would have registered Valentine’s Day). Also, this year, Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent. I found this on the net. You don’t have to be a Christian to find them amusing but useful so I pass them on.
Some suggestions on what to give up for Lent
Give up complaining: focus on gratitude.
Give up pessimism: become an optimist.
Give up harsh judgments: think kindly thoughts.
Give up worry: trust Divine Providence.
Give up discouragement: be full of hope.
Give up bitterness: turn to forgiveness.
Give up hatred: return good for evil.
Give up negativism: be positive.
Give up anger: be more patient.
Give up pettiness: become mature.
Give up gloom: enjoy the beauty that is all around you.
Give up jealousy: pray for trust.
Give up gossiping: control your tongue.
Give up sin: turn to virtue.
Give up giving up: hang in there!
Me? I think I’ll focus on ‘Give up pettiness: become mature.’ It’s about time I became mature!
