Going on holiday with RA
Hi, I am soon going to the US and I suffer with rheumatoid arthritis and autoimmune condition. Last holiday I went on was before my diagnosis and I experienced at the time, what I thought was just heat rash - it wasn’t it was an autoimmune linked skin flare up combined with my RA. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good brand of sunscreen/ protection that works for people with autoimmune conditions as last time it stopped me going outside completely. Thanks

Hi,
I have RA. We have a son in California and, pre-covid, used to visit every year - March/April or October, though, never high summer. I'm on methotrexate so have to stay out of the sun but that doesn't stop me enjoying my grandson's baseball games. Most U.S. pharmacies do good, high factor sunscreen. Our son has outdoor tables with brollies. I always wear a hat and, in really hot sun, while everyone else is down to shorts and skimpy tops, I'm the one at the game with my arms covered.
Just be sensible and careful but, if your rheumatologist suggests methotrexate, please do advise him / her of your sun intolerance.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.
