aching legs

Hi all, I've been newly diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my hips and knees, I know I can expect pain, but is it usual to feel tired/achy legs from your thighs down to your feet when walking/standing. I can't get a GP appointment for over 4 weeks, so I'm just asking if anyone else suffers with this, and any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

@HCAcomm1 maybe depends if its always been an issue. I always hated standing for long periods and my legs soon complained about it, shifting from one foot to the other to relieve it. Once arthritis came along I found out that I only have to stand up on the tram journey home for half an hour to trigger an arthritis attack. Mainly the joints can no longer take the weight I believe, so the first thing I do now after walking to the tram, is make sure I get a seat.

    Hi@HCAcomm1

I have Osteoarthritis in my right knee and hips and also suffer with aching legs, mainly from my knees down to my ankles. I take Naproxen for pain relief which does help but occasionally if I have been more active than usual ( usually a spot of gardening or overdoing the walking ) I take paracetamol as a top up. I am realising as well that I need to pace myself a bit more and rest more in between exercising and doing household tasks. I too cannot stand for long so if out and about I need to sit and rest for a while before carrying on. I do find that my physio exercises have helped strengthen my thighs and make myself do them once/twice a day. I do get some relief from sitting up on my bed with my legs stretched out ( I like listening to the radio this way ).

Are you taking any pain medication at the moment? Hopefully when you see your Doctor that he/she will be able to sort out some pain meds for you. Also I find it helpful when I do see my Doctor that I write down all my symptoms as and when they occur, so that I don't forget anything!

I hope that you get some relief soon. Take care.๐Ÿ™‚

Hi, YES! By the end of some days my legs are screaming, (usually correlates with +10k steps) warm bath with some Epsom salts (Magnesium sulphate I think) helps, then a muscle massage with my hand held massage gun makes a huge difference.

    Hi Fran 54,

Thank you for your advice, I take Meloxicam at the moment, but hopefully when I speak to my GP she will suggest a different medication as I don't feel these are very effective for me. I haven't been referred to a physio yet, so hopefully the GP will organise this for me as well.

    Take care ๐Ÿ˜Š
