Hello, new here.

I have arthritis in both the same hip and knee. Both have been x rayed and my knee appears to be the worst, but my hip is declining more quickly. I am still fairly mobile and swim twice a week, and am careful with my diet. Sleeping well is becoming an issue due to hip discomfort. I have been seen by a consultant and have had one steroid injection in my hip, and am going to have this done again. Any helpful tips ?

    Hi @Mommabear

I'm very new here. Diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis in June after what felt like eternity of sleepless nights due to hip pain (probably over a year). Pretty much every night around 2 or 3am and it wouldn't go away. First treatment after the diagnosis was steroid injection and it was great to sleep through the night after. Hope it provided you with much needed relief too. But since this wears off quickly and PA also affects tendons and ligaments and structures around joints, the consultant suggested I'd start methotrexate. It's been only a few weeks but I'm hopeful. Less inflammation means I can get on with physio and hopefully improve my mobility.

    Fingers crossed for you.

Hello @Maya_m and welcome to the online community,

It sounds like you’ve had a long journey to your diagnosis of Psoriatic Arthritis. It’s good to hear that the steroids gave you some relief, although only temporary, and that now you’re moving on to methotrexate. Many of our members are on this treatment and many find that it has really helped them, although it can take a few weeks to start making a difference.

There’s some useful information about what to expect with methotrexate if you want to read a bit more about it:

Do let us know how you’re getting on,

    Anna.
