Hi all, it's been a long time since I've posted on here. I have facet joint syndrome in my lower back, I've had fadiofrequency nerve ablation three times without success. My pain is getting worse and I am really struggling with sleep and honestly just extremely worn down. Last time I saw the pain clinic they said they wouldn't repeat the ablation if it didn't work, which is fine. But is there anything else I can push for?

I exercise regularly even when I am feeling rough and try to practise good "spine hygiene", I am just at my wits end at the moment as this has been going on for 7 years with no improvement, I've spent a fortune on private physio and other treatment. I am just given codeine and told to get on with it.

It's understandable that you're feeling worn down after years of dealing with this condition and trying various treatments. Here are some options you may consider:

Second Opinion: If you haven't already, consider seeking a second opinion from another pain specialist or orthopedic specialist. A fresh perspective may offer new insights or treatment options that haven't been considered before.

Alternative Treatments: Explore alternative treatments or therapies that may provide relief from your symptoms. This could include acupuncture, chiropractic care, massage therapy, or cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help manage pain and improve coping strategies.

Medication Adjustment: Discuss with your healthcare provider the possibility of adjusting your current medication regimen. There may be alternative medications or combinations of medications that could better manage your pain and improve your quality of life.

Interventional Procedures: In addition to nerve ablation, there may be other interventional procedures or injections that could help alleviate your pain. Your pain specialist can evaluate the potential benefits and risks of procedures such as epidural steroid injections, nerve blocks, or spinal cord stimulation.

Clinical Trials: Inquire about any ongoing clinical trials or research studies investigating new treatments or therapies for facet joint syndrome or chronic pain. Participating in a clinical trial may offer access to innovative treatments not yet available to the general public.
