New, newly diagnosed and lost

Hello I am newly diagnosed, almost 43 and feel lost. So I went for X rays on my hip, knee and both ankles which showed something up but the GP receptionist said it wasn't urgent and the GP would contact me in two weeks but I suffer from anxiety so rang again the next day and a different receptionist said the X rays had shown arthritis/dengenrative something (can't remember what she actually said) anyway I've googled n read stuff but lost. Do I just crack on with everything eh work, housework and general life etc even if I'm in pain or do I rest when it hurts. I'm overweight and know I need to loose dramatic amounts but how when some days I can't walk home from work. Please help xx

It’s a vicious circle, I’ve always found to keep going, try and keep moving, when I stop I seize up and find it harder to get going again, but it depends what you e been diagnosed with, I’ve got osteoarthritis arthritis , just had a hip replacement, your doctor should explain everything to you .

Thank you for replying. I always try to crack on but some people and docs have said if your in pain you should stop and rest. You are right though cause life can't just stop xx

I feel your pain I have osteoarthritis in the knee I’m in constant pain everyday. I have just cracked on with every day things but the pain literally affecting my mental health. I recently had steroid injections but feel like it’s made no difference what so ever if anything I’m in worst pain. I need to go back to my consultant and get a review.

Thanks Peter. I've changed my thinking a bit today and been shopping then rested while crafting then walked the dog which is something I've not managed for weeks cause it was too painful after doing anything else. Think I've realised my days need to be balanced with movement and resting. Quite proud of myself to be honest. Thanks again

as you have only just been diagnosed it can be hard to try and accept everything that is happening to you. It is not easy to pace yourself but it does help some of the time. Has your Doctor given you any pain relief and has he/she referred you on to have any physio exercise? Hopefully some of this may help, if not do go back to your Doctor and explain how this is affecting your daily life ( I found it helpful to write down all my concerns so that I would not forget anything ). Sometimes you have to be quite assertive to get anything done, but don't give up and please keep us updated. Take care.🙂
