Hi,

I'm considering having arthrosamid in my knee. Has anyone ever had this and just wondered what is your experience of it. Its quite costly around £2150 + so I would be really interested to know if its worth the money.

I would suggest having a read through others experiences as well as any comments taht you get on your post. For example

It is a lot of money so you are quite right in getting others experiences. I hope that you get the information you need to make a decision. Please let us know how you get on.

I was in line for a knee replacement, having constant pain and limited mobility. The surgeon at Spire suggested Arthrosamid as although I was 77 I had previously been very active and he thought I might be a good candidate. I decided to go ahead as my quality of life was impaired and I decided it was just the cost of a holiday - and holidays were off the cards as I was I so much pain. I had the injections in August 2024. Three weeks later, there was no change and then it was as if a miracle had happened! No pain, total mobility and I couldn’t have been happier. This continued right up until three weeks ago when, on a hike and walking down hill I experienced a sudden excruciating pain in my knee and all down the inside of the leg and I couldn’t walk. The leg pain has subsided but I’m now back to the original pain in the knee, albeit worse than it ever was. I can only assume the Arthrosamid has failed as there is no sign of improvement. I am surprised that it was a sudden onset - there had been no twinges or signs of knee problems returning before. I’m now back to waiting for a knee replacement. I try to look at this positively - I had ten months being completely pain free, but overall, I wish I hadn’t gone down this route. I wouldn’t feel so negative if this had been available on the NHS, but I do wonder how much the Arthrosamid masked the pain and whether it led to even more damage to the knee. I also wonder how many patients are advised not to have the treatment. I was disappointed that there was no follow up at all from Spire and when I contacted them re the recent problems I was told I would have to pay for another consultation!
