Hi
When did you start walking without crutches ?
After hip replacement how long is best to walk for each day ? Thanks in advance

When l left hospital after my left hip was replaced l was using two walking sticks, by the end of second week post op l was down to one stick. I am now in week five and still using one stick but in my other hand to give some support for my other unoperated hip. I do however swap hands if my operated hip starts to ache. We are all different so its difficult to suggest how much walking you should or shouldn't do, try it and listen to your body, it will let you know when it's had enough.

Nobody can answer that because our cases are all different and we end with a hip replacement from very different paths. I'd recommend you to follow what your physio and consultant tell you to assure a good recovery for your case. Take care

@anxioussarah I can only say I agree with @john62 and @nurina - we are all different and it's probably best to go with how you feel and what your physio advises. I found after a few days I was leaving my sticks and using the furniture to get around the house and up and down stairs. But outside I used two sticks for security for much longer. As it was cold and wet I didn't actually go outside for slightly over a week after getting home from hospital and started very slowly - only a couple of minutes the first day and built up with confidence over a period of weeks/months. I do think exercises are more important than walking but if you can manage both that's better still. Good luck.
