ME/CFS and osteoarthritis in knee, and elsewhere
Hi. I have arthritis in both knees but recently my right knee locked up as I was laying in bed. The pain was excruciating and it took ages to straighten the joint an inch at a time. Since then the knee has got increasingly painful and feels as if it should be swollen but it looks normal. I spoke to my GO but she did not seem interested and referred me to physio which, from past experience, is a waste of time.
is ‘locking’ a sign that things are getting worse and should I insist on a referral to an orthopaedic specialist? I had C19 in 2020 and was in ICU for 8 days and was told I had Long Covid although I recently got a free upgrade to ME/CFS
wrists, hip and knees all hurt constantly but the right knee is really bad and not improving
thanks for any advice
Steve

Hi @GrandadPig, sorry to hear that the knee pain is so bad. I appreciate you’ve had bad experiences with physio in the past, but because knee locking can occur for several reasons, we’d recommend seeing the physio. They will be able to assess if you need to be referred for specialist treatment or if they can put things in place that will help you to manage the pain. Hope this link helps. Thank you, Natalie, Helpline Advisor.
