Exercises
Hi I’m new to this to group & looking for a bit of advice please
I have had arthritis in my knees for a number of years & now think I have it in my hips,I have an X-ray booked for next month.
My GP has told me to exercise to strengthen my joints he gave me a leaflet with several exercises on I’ve searched videos on YouTube and find the exercises completely different I get overwhelmed and confused with all the information to a point where II don’t do any exercises

@HayleyW I agree. I am not sure anyone has a proper full explanation, and we should all read a book on it, but in a nutshell the pain from arthritis can take attention away from proper exercise for the associated muscles to the point where normal activity is not possible, and we don't even realise its happening.
But just a moment. Unless you have something like a muscle neuralgia, there is nothing wrong with the muscles not even a dickie bird. Its important to get this and make sure some weird and wonderful exercise is included in the week that will make them stronger again.

@HayleyW It can be very confusing knowing which exercises you may benefit from. I would advise you to go back to your Doctor and see if he/she can refer you to physio. Some surgeries have a physiotherapist on site or there is a course called Escape Pain which your Doctor can refer you to. It is a 6 week course and usually 2 weekly sessions where you are given advice on exercise/healthy food etc. and a physiotherapist is there to guide you through various exercises. I went on one last year with about 8 other people and found it helped. Otherwise there are various exercises on here for hips/knees. Hope this helps. Take care.🙂

Morning @HayleyW and welcome to the online community.
Sorry to hear your concerns about exercising and which ones to do.
I was unsure to and joined the following courses…….
They both introduced me into different exercises tailored to my conditions.
With a light hearted group it gave me confidence and reassurance I was not alone to.
Best wishes and good luck @Naomi33

I'd start with exercise for seniors if you are starting doing exercise and/or you are in pain, even you aren't a senior. When I was really bad with my hips, I used to do seated exercises and they are really good. If you feel that you need a little encouragement, local leisure centres use to have classes for seniors. Some gyms have rooms with low impact machines that are fantastic for arthritic pain. Aquaerobic and indoor bikes are great too. For arthritis is very important to keep a good condition of muscles so they can hold the wobbly joints. It could be hard at the beginning but it'll be much better soon and you'll feel the benefits. Take care
