Severe Osteoarthritis of hip with fractured acetabulum

Hi

I have recently been diagnosed with severe OA and:#acetabulum. How should I be walking with this?

  • Hello @Skunes

Thank you for posting on the Online Community. I am sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis (OA) of your hip and you also have a hip fracture. It sounds as if you are experiencing a lot of pain. Understandably, you want to make sure you don't make things any worse. The hip joint is  known as a ball-and-socket joint. This is because the top or head of the thigh bone, femur, is shaped like a ball and sits inside a hollow socket in your pelvis called the acetabulum.

If you’ve fallen and hurt your hip you should see your doctor urgently. Fractures around the hip are very common, particularly in people with osteoporosis. Osteoporosis makes bones less dense and fragile, so they break or fracture more easily. There are also other medical conditions which make people more susceptible to fractures.

You may need surgery to fix the damage. Walking with a fracture can make things worse and aggravate the damage done. We would advise you to consult a healthcare professional for further advice as soon as possible. We are not medically trained.
