Blue badge

Hi - would anyone know please, if you can get a blue badge for parking, if you have osteoarthritis?

I really struggle with walking any distance and although I only leave the house once a week, I have to plan where I can go because of proximity of parking. I also ask my husband to find me a shopping trolley as soon as we arrive, so I have something to hold on to.

Hi @cox1058 and welcome to the online community,

I’ve attached a link below to the government information about who qualifies for a blue badge. There’s a list of those who will automatically qualify followed by those who might qualify, and your challenges with osteoarthritis might come under this.

The decision about who can have a blue badge is made by your local council and will be based on the evidence you can provide. The Citizen’s Advice Bureau have published some guidance on applying that you might find helpful, and they can also be contacted for help:

I’m sure some of our members with osteoarthritis have applied for a blue badge, and hopefully they’ll come along to share their experience.

    Best wishes,

  • I have osteoarthritis and have had a blue badge for a number of years, just renewed for another 3 years. It's a huge help with maintaining independence and getting out and about. Definitely worth applying for; you have nothing to lose!
