Anti inflammatory diets

Hi, I’m wondering if anyone has any experience of eating an anti inflammatory diet? My husband was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis 7 years ago at age 43. He’s had several terrible flares over this period resulting in hospital admissions being bed bound for weeks on end at home. He is on Methotrexate and 6 monthly infusions of Rituximab and sometimes steroid injections into the affected joints. His RA has never been fully controlled and he’s never really well. Thinking we should be looking at what he’s eating to complement the various medicines. Would appreciate anyone experiences

  • Hi Helena,

    If you ask me… …And I've been there (Over night my life changed to his BANG!)

    Here's the magic recipe;

    1/3 Meds

    1/3 Diet

    1/3 Exercise

    0 Alcohol (At least try it for a month or two then he'll know which life he wants to live)

    All encompassed in positive attitude to making his way back

    Meds are only 1/3 of the solution!!!!!!!!!

    I've fantastic results with the Mediterranean way of eating. I call it the way of eating not to be confused with the word diet. Diet always seems to come across as a way of losing weight. It's one of the best ways of eating for Arthritis and is a very low inflammatory "diet".

    I know it's super hard but as soon as he can he needs to start exercising too. Again when I say this I'm not talking about the gym. Whatever he can do, start with ten finger stretches everyday. However grass roots it maybe just get started. Rotate sore wrists in circles, 2 times a day 3 times a day whatever can be a achieved and start there and work forward. If he's better than that start walking everyday.

    Hope this helps, it's a huge undertaking, but it can be done.

    There are lots of books on anti inflammatory food no sugar wheat dairy lots of fruit and vegetables. I can't do it but try to eat as healthy as possible. Can they look at his medication again? It's difficult when you are in pain but does he relax or try mediation pilates etc. My Arthritis is worse when I am stressed. If he works need to have a look if he can have allowance made etc
