Looking for ideas on food and exercise

Hi All, I've just joined. Hopefully get some ideas on exercise and food to help with hip pain which is getting worse. I've not managed to see a doctor yet only a physio, he gave me some exercise which definitely helped my hip pain when I went for a walk after a week of the plan. Unfortunately that didn't last long, I returned and was given different exercises and told to join a gym, which I have done. Today I've been for a walk with the obligatory coffee and cake stop a 6 mile walk and was in constant pain in my hips and legs. I think its about time I saw the doctor and got a proper diagnosis. I'm 68 and retired, I find myself sitting down a lot more than I did last year which I dont suppose helps the hips either. Definitely need some answers

I have found physio exercise, like some of the ones advised by Versus Arthritis, helps greatly. It won't cure arthritis but does improve mobility. You will loosen up as you keep at it. I have found Tai Chi really helps and I go to "Elderly Keep Fit" - great fun and good targetted exercise as the instructor asks what our various muscular/skeletal problems are when we join and gives us varients to suit our bodies.

I'm lucky if I can walk a mile now! But my Tai Chi, Keep-Fit and physio help keep me moving. Personally I find gyms intimidating and not all gym instructors understand arthritis and it's implications.

Food - just keep to a healthy diet with lots of fruit & veg. People talk about turmeric - never worked with me! But I do like a good curry. One rhumatologist said I'd need to eat a truck load for it to make a difference. But then everyone is different. If you can get painkillers that suit you that will help you able to do your exercises.

Hope you find exercise that suits you.

Thank you @MaryL44 and @Moira at the moment exercise has had to stop my hip pain and knee pain has increased and its getting quite difficult to walk easily. I've been to the doctor and at last have had xrays on my hip and knee and should get a proper diagnosis this coming week. He has given me some medication for pain and when that kicks in I will go back try some of the physio exercises bt Versus Arthritis on utube

It sounds like you're going through a tough time with your hip and knee pain. I'm glad to hear you've seen a doctor and are on the path to getting a proper diagnosis. Hopefully, the medication and theThe Nature Meds supplement will provide some relief soon. Once you're ready, the exercises from Versus Arthritis on YouTube could be really beneficial. Take care and hope you feel better soon! Vist
