Hip replacement with osteoporosis

Hello After many years managing osteoarthritis of the right hip I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that I will have to have a hip replacement. I was on the list but was taken off as I turned down a date in September and saw another consultation privately but I have just been back to the doctor and will be referred again. I also have osteoporosis of the spine - I have not fractured a bone in the spine and don't take bisphosphonates or anything else other than calcium/d3/k2 supplements which I pay for as I don't think the calcium/D3 given on NHS is adequate. I also do a lot of weight bearing exercise.

I am absolutely terrified of the operation and of how to manage after (I live on my own) and having osteoporosis is an added risk factor and something else to be worried about. The last dexa scan in 2020 showed osteopenia of the hips. I have requested another dexa scan. Of course, I am sure if everyone in the country over a certain age had a dexa scan a high percentage would probably have osteoporosis. I insisted on having a scan nearly 20 years ago as my mother was crippled with osteoporosis and osteoarthritis so, in my case, it is genetic.

Has anyone else with osteoporosis had a hip replacement? Thanks.
