Welcome to the Forun @1Loveparrots, I expect one of our lovely Admins will be along to welcome you in due course.

The outlook may not be quite as bleak as it seems, there are several natural supplements Arthritis sufferers can take for inflammation and pain as alternatives to prescribed meds such as Curcumin, Boswelia Serrata, Omega 3 fish oil and CBD. Diet can be benficial too, basically the anti-inflammatory Mediterranean Diet is to one to look at, healthy too. Then there's alternative therapies. I have severe bone-no-bone OA in both my knees too and last March started a course of Acupuncture, it's cumulative so took about 8 weekly treatments before it kicked in but now I go once a month and it's been a game-changer. My pain has reduced to a background 1-2 level ache and it's all but eliminated flare-ups.

Ultimately, it will be physio and exercise which will make the biggest difference to quality of life, focusing on strengthening the muscles and tendons surrounding weakened joints so they cope with the workload better and provide stability but you will probably need to nail your pain management in order to do it. I can testify that it works though - I was scheduled to have a double total knee replacement in February but felt confident enough to cancel as my condition has improved so much.

  • The physio said he can't do anything with me . He said only surgery would help . HD said I can go on my exercise bile but no longer than 5 mins . I just wish I had something to numb the pain for a short while to allow me to exercise

What treatment plan have you been given for managing your condition if surgery is the only option but you can't have it because of underlying health conditions @1Loveparrots? Were you told to limit your exercise bike to 5 minutes because of these other conditions? Low impact activities like cycling, walking and swimming are ideal for arthritis sufferers because don't damage joints, help strengthen muscles and tendons and help to keep us healthy in mind and body.

  • I can't walk far plus I've problems with my left foot swelling . I was told only 5 mins on my bike and not to use my treadmill . I don't even get any medication for it because of my liver . I've ordered today another icepack that you can fasten around your knee but it has a hole in so you can move around

  • I’m horrified to hear this. I would seek advice from another physio. All of the latest research points to exercise and strengthening as the most effective physical treatment for arthritis. You could also look at Iyengar Yoga. It focuses on alignment and has helped tennis player Rohan Bopanna from a position of giving up tennis in 2020 because of bone on bone arthritis in both knees to becoming the number one men’s doubles player in the world
