Knee & Hand Arthritis especially Heberden's and Bouchards Nodes

Hi, I'm new to this site and to arthritis. I'm 71 and I was diagnosed a few months back with osteoarthritis in my right knee though the left is also painful. I have Dupuytrens Contracture in both hands and lots of hard lumps in my fingers and palms that the GP says are Heberden's and Bouchards nodes. The Dupuytrens has been evident for a number of years but the lumps only started appearing a year or so back. However they are on the palm side of my fingers, in the creases and on the tips of my index fingers. Everything I read says these nodes occur on the knuckle side of the fingers. My "nodes" can be painful if I press on them but cold doesn't seem to trigger this. Nor do I get any arthritis type pain in my hands. I suspect these lumps/nodes are related to the Dupuytrens. If anyone else has something similar I would like to hear your experience.

Hi. I have the Heberden's nodes but they are on the knuckle side of the fingers. They only recently appeared. I have had hip arthritis for a while however. The nodes only hurt if I press on them.

Hello @Emmjay and welcome to the Online Community. We are a friendly and supportive group and I hope that will be your experience as well.

Our website contains a lot of useful information on arthritis, treatments and hints and tips and I would recommend having a look at it. In the meantime I've put a copy of our booklet on hands below which contains some information on Heberden's nodes.

Please keep posting and let us know how you are getting on and I hope others with relevant experience will connect with you soon.

    Best wishes

    Peter
