Pain and bruising
hi I’m experiencing a flare up atm. I’ve been off MTX for 2 weeks due to a cough.
Both knees and index finger and middle finger of right hand, and the base of my thumb on the left hand are swollen and painful.
As the inflammation is subsiding it’s leaving a bruise. Is this normal?

Melly years ago something similar happened to me I can't remember 100% but I think it was something to do with vasculitis (sp) I would see if you can see your GP unless (which is unlikely!) you have an appt imminently due with Rheumatology.
I hope you feel much better soon
Take care

i too get these flair ups, my arthritis started in knees, very bad now and im having problems with fluid retention and lymphadema, have District Nurse strapping me up weekly at the moment. But i also have the same hand problems getting worse and am strapping my left wrist for support. The base if thumb the joint is enlarged along with 2 nd joint. Its killing the pain. I have swelling on right hand too but the joints are less enlarged, both hands my little fingers top joint, but these rarely hurt.
But the bruising is usually csused by fluid retention around the joints as the flair up causes the swelling and then the body cannot get the fluid out and this means you bruise easier.
I will add im 72 this year and this is the worst ive been. I have asked about steroid injections and if the swelling reduces i will have them in my knees, i have to ask GP if i can ever see one! About injection in the base joint in my left thumb as its making life difficult because the pain is dreadful.
