Bronchiectasis

My RA has been managed really well for past 11 yrs with Methotrexate. But now I have Bronchiectasis as well … so I’m advised not to take Methotrexate whilst on antibiotics for Bronchiectasis - so now I have a flare-up. Is anyone else in this horrible situation? It takes so long to get a RA Consultant appointment and I’m wondering how to get through next few weeks until then?

Thanks for reading.

    Hi @bopeep900

Bronchiectasis stinks as much as arthritis.

I have OA rather than RA so cant comment on your Methotrexate but i do sympathise. Can you speak to your pharmacist, RA clinic for advice or maybe 111?

I have had two flare ups this year which were really nasty and very productive after going 18 months with nothing and was grateful to have my emergency meds at home. Do you have active breathing exercises? I do mine every other day even when well which keeps my chest clear.

Love n hugs, hope you feel better soon.

    Hi @bopeep900

I understand you are struggling with flare-ups while coming off of methotrexate for a period of time.

Our website has a wealth of useful information, including this link to our page on rheumatoid arthritis:

It has some really useful sections on managing flare- tips for managing pain and also living with arthritis. If you can include a little more information about yourself, how the flare-ups affect you, then we can try and help a little more.

I may also be worth contacting the helpline at either 0800 5200 520 or email helpline@versusarthritis.org.
