Methotrexate side effects update

So after my recent post I finally got to speak to the nurse yesterday. She was replying to my email I sent 2 weeks ago, and things haven't approved.

As expected she was talking about me trying the injections instead of the tablets, I'm hesitant to do this as all my symptoms have just got 100% worse since starting treatment. The main reason I was referred was because of my chronic back pain which was ruled out being connected to my arthritis. So I'm now thinking of stopping treatment and just doing good old basic pain management. I have asked to see a new consultation so that should be interesting.

Interested to hear if anyone else found alternatives.

Hi @Katherine - sorry to hear that you are having problems with Methotrexate. I also had problems with this medication, I took the tablet form and it made me very sick. I found that for 2-3 days of the week I was so ill that I couldn't leave the house, which wasn't great. I then switched to the injections and for a while things did improve, but then they too started making me very sick. Perhaps you could chat to your Rheumatologist about alternative medications to try. For me personally, I went onto a biological drug called Humira, which was a brilliant drug and caused no side effects for me whatsoever. Therefore, massively improving my quality of life. It will be interesting to see what a new consultant suggests. Please keep us updated.

    Good luck, Claudia x
