Flying with methotrexate injector pen
Hello 😊
I'm flying to Sicily on Wednesday with Ryanair, and have just recently started methotrexate so I need to bring the injector pen with me.
What do people normally do... Put it in the hold? Hand luggage? I'm going to feel like some sort of evil villain in a Bond movie carrying a pen filled with a toxic chemical that I could stab someone with... It'll be the one time Customs have a proper reason to stop me.
What about disposal? I'm staying in an apartment. Also I can't carry a massive sharps bin with me?! What do other people do…

Hi Sue,
I believe the injector pen needs to go in your hand luggage. Your hospital can write a letter that you need to show and provide a travel sharps bin to dispose the pen into. I think there are also travel forms you can complete.. It is probably an idea to contact your airline and the airports before flying to make them aware. It might also be worth checking as well if there are any regulations in terms of what you are allowed to take into Italy, although I am sure essential medication will be fine.
I hope that helps!
