Pain in toes
hi, I have been getting pain in my left big toe (also getting some pain in right big toe too now). It’s down the side next to the nail. My question is could this be arthritis? I have osteoarthritis in my fingers, diagnosed about 18 months ago. Thanks Roger

It could well be, I have OA in my hands and also hallux rigidus in my right big toe. Both conditions developed within a year of each other.

Hi @Dakota
Thank you for your posting on the Online Community. I am sorry to hear that you have been in pain with your big toes. It is not possible for us to say whether this is arthritis or not as it would need to be diagnosed by a healthcare professional such as your GP.
A healthcare professional will usually make their diagnosis after examining your feet. They will look for signs of swelling and any structural changes that could be causing the pain. You may also be asked to walk about, to see whether the problem affects your movement and posture. Your doctor may want to refer you to a specialist in foot care, such as a podiatrist, physiotherapist, or an orthotist, for a diagnosis and treatment.
I have put a link below to our information on foot pain and when to see a health professional as well as tips on how to manage the pain. I hope this is helpful to you.
Best Wishes
