Advice please

Morning, I am another newbie and glad I have found this site.

I have been diagnosed with right hip osteoarthritis. Subchrondal sclerosis, with bone spurs, joint space preserved.

I am 59yrs, fit and healthy, active, hiking approx 35-45 miles weekly, until April of this year, plus arm and leg strengthening. My walking has reduced to 2 to 4 miles most days, it takes almost an hour to walk 2 miles.

I am under private physio and I am doing exercises within limitations plus I find the arthritis forum stretches helpful. I have no internal rotation of leg and cannot raise it from floor.

But the pain, NSAIDs not helpful, GP prescribed low dose Amitriptyline which helps me sleep around 6hrs, I am now taking them on ad hoc basis because of hangover effect next day.

My physio has recommended appt with private orthopaedic consultant for an opinion which I have now arranged and can just about afford.

My question is, would anyone know why I have so much pain and am so limited in what I do when joint space is ok. I am naive with this and I have to be honest I doubted the diagnosis at first until I saw it in black and white.

Thanks so much for reading I feel better just for writing it down 😃

Welcome @Annza01 to the online community,

I can sense your frustration about your reduced capabilities, you have experienced a rapid decline in your mobility and are in considerable pain. You are however on the way to getting your pain and limited activity treated through physio, exercise and medication. Your consultants appointment will give you the chance to ask the questions causing you concern and hopefully supply you with a way forward to a less painful future.

I am glad you have found the VA stretching exercises helpful and wondered if you had considered other less weight bearing activities e.g. bicycling, swimming, yoga?

I attach some links for your information
