living with arthritis first post

I am looking forward to being on the forum.

I have Osteoporosis and I am on a public hospital waiting list and could be waiting between 18 months and 4 years as i have been told I am non urgent at this stage even though I cannot walk very far,the hospital situation is so strained at the moment in all the city hospitals due to seasonal flu and covid and so a lot of the elective surgeries have been postponed for now.

    Lovely to meet you @violet46

I do hope you don't have to wait too long for your surgery. Waiting lists are so long these days that a few of our members have had to resort to going private. In fact in our village 3 have needed their hips done since the pandemic (not because of the pandemic just since) and of them one had NHS one is booked in for private surgery next month (17,000 pounds!) and one is considering private too.

Best of luck and I hope you enjoy the forum as much as I have over the years.

Thank you frogmorton, for your welcome.

Unfortunately it is a long wait here for surgery, around 25,000 to 30,000 dollars per hip and same for knee here in Australia, and about 12 months wait if you join private so I might have to consider my options,I could at least walk a bit further before I had the Prolia injection,I found out that there are Law suits out against Prolia and Avenity in Canada.I would be interested to know if any member on here is having side effects from these injections I noticed that you cant just stop having the injections as there is a rebound effect if you don't take some other medication, but I am willing to take that risk rather than go through more excrucaiting pain.hopefullyif I am really careful what I do I should be ok, I take vitamin D3K2 to help as well.

    Hi @violet46

Just had a look at the information this site provides on the drug

I read the side effects. I see osteocronosis mentioned that explains your teeth. I think another name for osteocronosis is avascular necreosis which my own daughter had. In her case after cancer treatment she was still in her teens. She ended up needing her shoulder replaced and had hip surgery too..

If i was you I'd definitely keep an eye on the lawsuit going on in Canada.

Did you look at these threads already apologies if you have

    Take care

Thank you Toni for the info re Denosumab I Have read it before, but I think that there are a lot more side effects than Amgen are telling, and Evenity are just as bad and can have deadly side effects as well.

My 40 years experienced Dr wouldn't prescribe any of those bone drugs for me,he also said fosamax is bad.

I am sorry to read that your daughter has cancer and is suffering, apparently Prolia is given to cancer patients to supposedly help with their bones ,but from the effects I had from it, I cant believe it is being prescibed at all especially to cancer sufferers.

Thinking of you and your Daughter Hug

ask a patient has a lot of patient reviews on different medications.

Apologies @violet46 I should have said that my daughter is well over her cancer treatment now and firmly in remission, but thank you so much for your kind thoughts. They wanted to give her that stuff, but because she was so young luckily they didn't and her two surgeries have sorted out the chemo (and dexamethasone) damage for now. Of course having joint replacements in your teens means revisions throughout her life, but we had no choice she was in so much pain.

I hadn't heard of ask a patient had a look it's so interesting thank you!

    take care

frogmorton, so glad to see your Daughter is well and in remission it must have been terrible times for you and your daughter.

I remember having to go through yearly blood checks as a child after surviving Myeloid Leukemia that I came down with at 10 months old, I had blood transfusions from my dad but was eventually sent home from Hospital with only 3 weeks to live. my parents took me to a naturopath in desperation, and luckily I am here today, even though Drs today can't believe I survived, even though I can't remember the pain,it must have been hell for my Parents to have to go through.

This is why today I try to use natural medications when I can.

Sorry I cant seem to highlight names anymore.
