Managing Wrist Flare at work

Hi guys, lve had PsA 27 years & still working in an admin role. I do a fair bit of excel data input. I've used a roller ball mouse for years & found it great. Copy & pasting has now become very painful thanks to a flare. Wrist splint & compression glove doesnt help. Has anyone else found a different style of mouse that works well? If so please take a photo, thanks, Maria, Wonky Joints x

    Hi @Weeyin

I used to work as an IT manager for a large company and we provided non standard mice to a number of staff who had issues with using the standard mouse. It was almost always for repetitive strain injury of the wrist and there's a whole host of manufacturers providing these. Maybe it would be worth a try of one of those. I know it's against the site rules to tag individual companies but there are a number of companies that sell many different variations of mice. If you google 'posture mice' there's a whole host of companies selling a variety of shapes and sizes of mice. They are normally not cheap though so maybe ask you employer if they would be willing to pay for it.

    Hi @Weeyin

I use a gel mouse mat with a rest for my wrist which helps. Also consider using a keyboard rest rather than the 'flat keyboard' which seems to be the latest craze.

Hi, I use a Logi ergonomic mouse as it keeps the wrist in the natural side on position rather than flat with palm facing down. I also use Dragon software which is voice controlled and great for emails etc and you can use with excel. I was able to get this through my company, through the government scheme Access to work. Ask the HR department as they should be aware of the scheme if they are unable to fund the software. You can Google, not sure if you can apply direct or if the company need to do it.

  • I use an ergonomic mouse and keyboard- currently a uni student! It definitely helps put less strain on my wrists when typing notes and essays!
