thank you for posting your experiences
thank you for posting your experiences. At my pre-op they told me I’d be getting g the spinal anesthesia so I was very nervous about this until I read your comments 😃. I’m curious where everyone lives since you all had to wait so long! I’m in Salt Lake City, Utah and they scheduled me for September surgery (2months), but then I called to say I’d like it sooner since the pain is getting worse. So they moved it up to August 5th! The surgeon is well known with awesome reviews and decades of experience, and is also skilled with anterior approach which they say has the best outcomes.
why did it take so long where you are? That’s horrible you had to wait like that 😢

It depends where you live in the UK as some places have longer lists than others. If you can afford to pay privately then you would not have to wait long! I think the system in the US is very different from ours. I assume that you have private medical insurance? More and more people are taking out private medical insurance in this country but it is too late and would cost far too much for me to do that at this age but if I were younger I would definitely take it ou. Great that you haven't had to wait so long.
I haven't actually had a hip replacement yet but am seeing the surgeon tomorrow (I had previously paid to see the same surgeon privately but will now be seeing him on the NHS and will have the operation on the NHS as it is too expensive to go privately). i have been putting it off for years as I have been able to manage it well enough and am not in agony but it is now reaching the point where it has to be done or I won't be able to walk. Good luck with your op on the 5th August.

Hi @Suzann
Unfortunately here in the UK our lists are sooooo long the NHS are definitely unable to keep up with the number of people needing joint replacements, It's fabulous that yours was booked so quickly and even that they were able to bring it forwards for you!
I expect in your country though you pay? Here we can also go private (more and more people are having to go down this route) it costs us about £17,000 for a hip. We don't have health insurance as a matter of course here as we have our National Health Service but as l said it isn't managing too well at the moment.
Lovely to meet you anyway
