Hi, I’ve been diagnosed with grade IV osteoarthritis in my knee. So far, I’m mostly carrying on doing my normal stuff, walking, dancing, and I do a mobility class twice a week which seems to have kept things from getting worse. I am seeing a surgeon in September to see what he says - the doc says she would rather I have surgery now when I am fit and healthy, rather than in 6 years time when I will be 80. I’m not keen to have surgery but will see what the surgeon says.

Hi @Socialdancer welcome to the online community.

I see from your post that even with Osteoarthritis in your knee you are very active! This is great and is probably why you've got so far without needing surgery to date. I can see why your Dr wants the surgery done sooner rather than later while you are still healthy.

I have done a quick search for you for recent posts about total knee replacements (TKR) as they might be of interest to you.

Do please let us know what the surgeon says and if you go ahead with the operation it would be lovely to hear about your recovery.

    My best wishes

    Ellen.

  • Thank you Ellen, I’ve had a good look through those threads and they are very interesting.

Hi @Socialdancer nice to meet you.

I think you are doing incredibly well doing all that when your knee needs replacing! I agree with Ellen it has to stand you in good stead for a swift recovery.

Also your Dr is right surgery while you are 'young' and healthy has to be better than leaving it until other health issues make it less safe.

    Nice to meet you anyway
