OA in hands

Hi all, I'm busy scrolling through lots of posts, what a lovely community. Have joined due to OA in both hands, both my thumbs are degenerating very quickly over the last few months. Pain can be excruciating, no gels appear to work, constantly trying heat/cold treatments and strapping and splints 🤷🏼‍♀️. Not sure which way to turn. Can't take NSAIDS. Any suggestions please?

Hello @grannyfranny and welcome to the Community. We are a friendly and supportive group and I hope that will be your experience as well.

I know what you mean about pain in hands and thumbs as I have that too. Have you tried compression gloves? I've put a link in below to the ones we sell.

Also this is a link to our booklet which might be of use

I hope you find something that works for you. The only medication I take is co-codamol when it gets bad. Please let us know how you are getting on.

    Best wishes

    Peter

    Hi @grannyfranny love your name!

Sorry to hear about your poor hands especially the thumbs. I hope you are getting some medical support? A good GP physio or even orthopedic consultant?

I have had two friends (in real life) who have both had a trapeziectomy on their thumbs. Actually no it's 3! They are all so happy now and feeling much more comfortable. I know the recovery isn't quick painful and hard work, but of course their thumbs were agony already so they managed.

I am also now banned from nsaids (I am on blood thinners now) and they were the only thing that ever helped my arthritis so you have my sympathy there. I use a variety of things to help when I need to I have a tens machine, I use MSN gel and my trusty wheatbag too.

Take care I hope you get something sorted soon.
