Hi there, I was wondering if anyone can suggest a travel insurance company who cover RA and the numerous trips to the GP etc that are associated with the condition.

Thank you 🌍️

    Hi DinDee,

I bought travel insurance from Saga. They included my Psoriatic Arthritis, Pernicious Amaemia and having no spleen. It was cheaper to buy a year long policy rather than an individual trip, and cost me £284 for the year. I can travel up to 90 days at a time and do a total of 120 days within the year. ('worldwide excluding USA, Canada, Mexico and Caribbean) - I'm doing Australia and New Zealand for 10 weeks. But obviously, there are options to cover US etc if that's where you're going. The cover seems quite comprehensive, but of course, you never know how good the cover is unless you have to use it!

My biggest problem has been sorting out getting 10 weeks worth of biologics transported!! But have now purchased a specialised cool bag at great expense, both monetry and wieght wise out of my hand luggage allowance!

    Good luck!

Hi @DinDEE I use compare the market or go compare and I always find lots of different companies come up that are really reasonable. I find taking out a yearly one cheaper and I do it joint with my partner who also had medical condition and this year we paid £60 for two for a year with Admiral and that had cruise cover included. Good luck

Hi @DinDEE and welcome to the online community,

It looks like you’ve got some useful suggestions already from our members about travel insurance with RA. There are companies that cater specifically for people with medical conditions, although I think they can sometimes be a bit more costly. You could try a google search on ‘travel insurance medical conditions’ which should bring up quite a few, although it’s always good to hear recommendations.

    Good luck on your travels,

Thanks to all above for the replies. Sallygee I'm delighted to hear your travelling to NZ/Oz, I'm hoping to go next year but am worried about my ability to travel long haul. Good for you.

Gadgetgirl and Anna, yes thanks I'll google more options. I've found that providing 2 years history of going to the Dr etc is hugely challenging. I'd hoped for a company that would just cover all automatically.

    Thanks very much everyone. Dee

    Hi,

Providing two years' history of visits to the doc? Who asked for that? I've never been asked for it but, pre-covid, I used to visit our son and grandson every year in "California. I've found they do want all conditions listed (though they weren'r interested i my breast cancer as it was so long ago!)

They're interested in hospitalisation, the number of meds we take for each condition and any implants. And forget all about it if you have an 'undiagnosed condition' ie if you've something wrong but nothing officially confirmed. I once had to postpone a visit because my haemoglobin levels were low, I'd had them checked with endoscopy and colonoscopy but not yet returned to the gastro consultanþ who ultimately confirmed notHing wrong. I ģuess we can'-t actually blame them foŕ refusing to insUre a mystery problem which could tUrn very expensive.

But I'm sure that won't happen. Just go, enjoy, drink lots of warèr or fruit juice on the plane, walk around a lot (the drinks should ensure that!)and have a good time. Many break an Oz trip in eg Thailànd for a good night's sleep.

If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.
