Hi there, very recently been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis all over and started on methotrexate and steroids to cover. Its a lot isnt it! Im only 38 and have a 5 year old. I was always the first mum down the slide with her etc and feeling the guilt! But we must battle on no alternative really is there!! I was wondering about diet. It's a minefield one page I read says dairy is good next says it causes inflammation. Does anyone know of a credible list or source of food items that may help / must avoid. This is a wonderful resource as you feel so alone like no one understands. Thank you ❤️

Hi @NicG and welcome to the online community,

I’m so glad you are finding support on the forum - it is a great resource and our members are all very friendly so I hope you get some useful suggestions. I’m sure your little one is just glad to have you around being their Mum. I was never able to be very active with my two because of RA but I found lots of other ways to play with them and have fun - I’m sure you do too!

Versus Arthritis have published a useful guide to eating well that you might like to have a look at:

    Well hello @NicG

    Lovely to meet you.

Your post resonated with me so much. My children were slightly older than you only one still at primary school. BUT I was the fastest mum at the school gate and used to win the Mum's races too😕

One of my main worries was the thought of letting down and even embarrassing my children. Luckily with medication (yes it's a lot!) and the right attitude (regular exercise etc) that didn't happen. well I didn't embarrass them any more than any Mum does😉

There's a member here @stickywicket who has some fantastic tips about coping with young children - she wasn't as lucky as you or I she had to get by with paracetamol. No DMARDs like MTX when her RA kicked off, but she did it.

You'll be ok just keep on going and post any queries we'll help if we can

    Toni xx
