Stopping methotrexate
Hello
Anyone out there who has stopped taking methotrexate? I am on furosemide a diuretic for heart failure. I have found out that methotrexate should not be taken with furosemide. Anybody found more natural ways to control rheumatoid? X

Hi @Ferry,
I checked on the reliable www.drugs.com and can find no mention of interactions between these two meds. However, do be sure to ask your pharmacist.
Sometimes necessity forces the docs to prescribe meds which are potentially interactive but it has to be an informed decision carrying less risk than not doing so.
As for treating RA in more natural ways - I'd say there's nothing natural about an overactive immune system and it needs strong meds to deal with it.
See your pHarmacist and, if he or she has any concerns, ring your rheumatology helpline. I do hope all will be well.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi @Ferry , sorry to hear that your new heart medication cannot mix with methotrexate, that must be difficult.
It's important to remember that what works for one person may not work for another and the best thing to do is always to consult someone such as your pharmacist or rheumatologist and definitely let your rheumatologist know your concerns about taking the MTX with your heart medication ASAP.
For me, I recently has to lower my methotrexate dosage after my rheumatologist found that it was suppressing my immune system more than they would like and have switched to a lower dose with new medications added - it is definitely worth asking your rheumatologist about different medications that won't interfere with your heart medication, they are there to help you after all 😊.
I have also attached some links on more natural ways people have dealt with their arthritis, but remember that everyone is different.
good luck!

Hi thank you so much for replying to my question I will take a look at the websites you have suggested. I actually found out about the interaction on the versus arthritis site having been directed there by the rheumatology nurse for exercise! I am waiting to hear from the nurse and hopefully they can suggest a way forward many thanks once again x
