Well congratulations firstly on having baby girl 😘

Sorry to hear concerns about joints and swelling and generally feeling rubbish. Have you spoken to your doctor about this as I feel you need to ???

  • hello, I was in a similar situation to you I’m now 33, but was diagnosed 5 years ago when my son was a few month old with psoriatic arthritis which has sadly taken over my life. My advice is ask for help if it’s available, get to know your limits, this took me ages and I was constantly over doing it and causing flares. Seek support from GP/mental health nurse if you need it. Push for a medication that works for you, this can take a while. Try to do things for yourself that make you feel better. I like to put makeup on every day as I feel more myself. I’m sure there’s lots more but I hope that helps. You’re not alone x

I've found an anti-inflammatory diet works really well for my arthritis. Low in salt, saturated fats, gluten and dairy. It's not completely exclusionary more an 80/20 split in favour of low inflammatory choices. An amazing cook book I found is called "Eat Well with Arthritis" by Emily Johnson. Well worth a look if you'd like to change your diet.

  • Hi @Disney1958,

You are where I was 22 years ago! My daughter is 22 and at University.

The initial shock, the why me question is all part of the process to acceptance. The main thing I would have wanted to tell my 30yo self is to enjoy life to the fullest, savour every moment. Pain comes and goes and with the right medication can go into remission too but plan ahead (save up for a pension as most of us might retire early)

Find hobbies that you can do even with swollen painful joints

Exercise is really important. Versus arthritis have some really good exercise videos on YouTube for all joints.

    Best wishes

Just spotted you there @maddybaker I just wanted to welcome you and thank you for your kind and helpful first post to @Disney1958.

There is nothing like the advice of someone who is or has been where you are now.

It's lovely to have you here and hope you'll find support for yourself too when you need it.

    My best wishes

    Ellen.

@Disney1958 I recently read this story I don't know if it is of any interest to you? You mentioned diet.

When I am flaring I tend to do my best to look after myself as much as possible. Resting when I can - in your case absolutely when the little one is asleep - don't worry too much about not being up to doing much with her. If you have to spend a few days watching TV while you are on the sofa so be it. She has a mum who loves her and is safe.

Take and accept offers of help so that you can rest too.

Batch cook when you are well then freeze those healthy meals for flares when they can easily be defrosted and heated up.

    My very best wishes

    Ellen.
