MRI finally
Hi, ive been having bad pain in my knee for a couple months. Ended up leaving work in tears as it was bad. Went to a&e urgent centre who gave me stronger painkillers, that didnt touch it. I saw my rhumatology consultant couple days later. He did x rays on the knee and opposite ankle as that hurt im guessing from compensating when walking and standing.
Hes not sure what it is as pain worse if i sit and when stand it gradually starts and smarts and burns then whole joint tightens. Cant bend it far.
Having mri next sunday to see what is going on. Ive been begging for a scan for ages but my gp and other consultant just said keep moving. Even when i said the pain is different and worse, so im glad my new consultant is listening to me. He said he will also give stronger painkillers if i need them.
Im a little worried with the mri, as you have to keep still and if the knee starts thribbing, i'll want to move it.
Has anyone else had an mri for knee?

Hi @Debs1970 sorry to hear you are suffering but hopefully your MRI will help your doctors see what is actually going on.
I had MRI a few years ago from head to toe and found it very strange but managed it so fingers crossed you will to. Is yours a full body or just lower legs ??
My cousin had anxiety issues and discussed help to calm her before her MRI so if you are concerned maybe discuss with your doctor beforehand??
Good luck Best wishes @Naomi33

Hi @Debs1970
Thanks for posting on the Helpline Online Community and sorry to hear about the recent escalation of your knee pain and now ankle problems. It is positive that you are now being offered an MRI scan, and it is only natural to worry about the unknown. Hopefully, the MRI scan will identify the cause of the problems you’ve been experiencing with your knee and ankle joints to lead the way to the most appropriate treatment for you.
As @Naomi33 suggests, talking with the doctor about your concerns would be a good idea, or contact the MRI scanning department at the hospital in advance of your appointment to ask for support in preparing for the procedure. You will have support from specialist healthcare professionals before you go into the scanning room, and during the scan the Radiographer will communicate with you via an intercom.

Hi debs I have recently been for xray on my knee. As this year my knee has been getting worse and worse with pain. Unable to stand on it without it giving way. Xray was a bit uncomfortable but I just done some breathing exercises through it. Just tell them if u are in any pain whatsoever, I'm sure they will understand. I hope everything will be OK
