RA and Pulmonary Embolism
Due to medication not working i had a major flare of RA which peaked overnight in April this year. The next morning i experienced breathlessness. I immediately informed my local RA team and the consultant organised an x-ray following which my GP prescribed antibiotics, (although there were no physical symptoms of a lung infection) and the RA consultant thought there was nothing of concern in my lungs and the breathlessness could be due to my heart. A couple of months later i was eventually diagnosed by a leading central London hospital as having a Pulmonary Embolism and treated with blood thinner by their emergency care team. I had a further scan recently and it has now cleared. The RA consultant has also started me on a new biological which seems to be working. My questions are:
- has any one else experienced a pulmonary embolism following a RA flare
- What treatments have you used to prevent a reoccurence?
- Are there any websites which provide information on the link between RA and Pulmonary Embolisms.
many thanks

H @leila I haven't had any experience of RA linked with pulmonary embolism but I'm sure there will be members of our community that have. We tend not to have many people on line on a Monday afternoon so do check back later to see if anyone has responded.
I think our Helpline team may be able to give you some information so do message them (details are below)
Best wishes
Mary
